the starry night

I chose The Starry Night  by Vincent Van Gogh for a visual art blog post. First because i love this painting and second because I'm trying to figure out some meaning behind it.

i noticed the dark figure on the left bottom side and i always thought it was some sort of mountain or rock. now that i look closer i think its fire. the darkness of the fire might represent smoke. and i think the fire  over the town doesn't represent destruction but it's as if the fire is giving light over the town.

another thing i love about the painting is in it's name the "starry" sky. i love how it's the nighttime yet the sky still has light colors in it. the light in the sky is like the light the stars and the moon shine over the town.

this gives some sort peaceful sense. also that the stars and the moon and the sky are like a blanket over the town. its sort of connecting to how the people in this town are in their beds sleeping under blankets.

my nomination

FOR AN ALL STAR NOMINATION I NOMINATE........................mark !
 http://hungry-for-books.blogspot.com/
i love his blog posts because of the way he goes in depth about  the characters and then gets the bigger picture into the world. when he does that it's almost a if he is dumb-ing it down for me and explaining in detail his reasons for everything. when I can understand better i can respond better to things.
i also love how he takes different peoples situations into the equation when talking about how his theories affect the world. when he takes other variables- not just the book and how it affects him- into how he explains things; it makes it easier to relate to what he's saying. his ideas about things are very interesting and make me curious about the topics he touches on.
Excellent job mark!

The Hunger Games illusion vs. reality

The Hunger Games is really a book about illusion. When Katniss is in the arena during the games she doesn't know what to believe. She doesn't know who to trust who is sincere and who is doing things just for show. The Hunger Games are recorded play by play from cameras for each district to see. Every time someone in the arena makes a decision they are conscious of the cameras watching them and all of the districts watching them also. Doesn't this remind you of how we live today always watched by security cameras and surveillance cameras.
Most people don't understand that the main reason that the book might show that all the poeple in the arenas are watced are to keep tabs on them and make sure they're alive. Also it brings in the theme of technology and the fact that it may rule their lives. When they are acting just for show it gets in their minds how they have to watch what they're doing.
When she was picked it was also like the fact that people get drafted and pushed into conflicts that they have no intention of fighting and that the innocent people of the world have to deal with the fact that they have no say in the choice of fighting or not. I think when Katniss doesn't know to believe in Peeta or his decisions she stays more wary and alert. It's good for the brain when your not completely always sure of things and when she has to act for the cameras as a different person than she feels inside its confusing and more difficult for survival.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is about a dystopian world where the main character Katniss is chosen to enter the Hunger Games with a boy named Peeta Mellark. They will be fighting against 24 other kids from the ages of 12-18, to the death.
One big problem that goes on in this book is justice. In the reaping  process it is unfair each year starting at the age of 12 children have to put their names in to the hunger games. the names become accumulative because the next year you have to add your name twice and the next three times. Also to get a years supply of grain and food you have to add your name again. so the poor who need more food have more of a risk for getting picked.

Breaking Dawn

(Spoiler) Breaking Dawn is about a girl named Bella who lives in Forks, Washington and is married to a vampire named Edward Cullen and she lives with his family of vampires. So far she has gotten pregnant with Edward and has a half vampire half human fetus living inside her. Her best friend Jacob (the werewolf) and his pack are trying to get to Bella to destroy the dangerous fetus inside her for fear it will cause danger to the people of forks.
I think Breaking Dawn is more interesting to read than the other books in the Twilight series because it has a whole different perspective from inside the mind of Jacob Black. When Stephanie Meyer writes from Jacobs perspective it seems more relaxed and smoother to read. Also since Jacob is werewolf he can hear in the minds of his pack. It's almost as if it were dialogue when he hears another wolfs thoughts and responds to them in his mind. When Meyer writes though Jacobs mind and describes Bella it is more soft comforting way than Edward or Charlie (Bellas father) would describe her.

If I were in Bellas position I would go insane . Bella wants to keep the baby because she loves it and its apart of her. Yet i understand why  the pack wants to destroy it. If a half vampire half human baby  was growing inside me and breaking my bones and starving me from the inside I would want it out. So there is two ways to go and knowing that this baby could kill me yet loving it i would have to take it out. I would rather live and killed the baby knowing it could have killed others, than it killing me and then living on to possibly kill more people.

Julius Ceasar

I am reading this book in drama and I picked it because i was born on the ides of march which is also the day Julius Caesar was stabbed. I was always told that the ides of march is a dangerous day but i never knew why . In sixth grade i was told a brief summary of the story of Julius Caesar. I was told he was a very powerful and corrupt tyrant that many people worshiped and a large group thought he was a conspiracy. I was also told his best friend Brutus was one of the few that stabbed him.
I really like reading Shakespeare because the old language is hard to understand and i feel like i have to put two totally irrelevant things together for a passage to make sense. Also there are a lot of double negatives in his writing which can get confusing. Overall i really like the story line even though it is a bit crazy and somewhat gruesome I think it's a cool story. There is a big sense of who as power over whom and what these separate conspirators can get out of killing Caesar. Some want the power Caesar had for themselves and others just want to make thing s right and have justice over Rome.
I also just went and saw the movie Anonymous  which is about the conspiracy if Shakespeare was a real person or not. This movie shows the other possibility that there was a person called Edward De Vere  who wrote all of these plays we know "Shakespeare" as the author of. The movie shows the possibility that Edward De Vere was a person high in Monarchy and could not publish these political plays under his name for he will be arrested. This conspiracy says that he wrote the plays and used the ghost name "William Shakespeare" as the author to protect his identity.

Eclipse

After reading more of this book i feel like  it has a motif with the eyes. Stephenie Meyer has this way of describing eyes. When she describes the eyes of vampires its interesting how people who are not one of the Cullens, eyes are described differently. She doesn't just say Aro's eyes are red she says his eyes are a deep crimson and the irises are hard like candy. When Stephenie Meyer describes the Cullens eyes it's like you can picture it clearly. For example she says Edwards eyes are a tawny melted gold that smoldered Bellas' eyes, his pupils were dark small dots against the warm inviting gold.

One thing I always wonder is what if this is just one big dream that some girl had while in a concussion  and she is actually some city kid who is like 11 years old. That would be a very interesting thing but i think that might loose the magical feel you have when your into the Twilight series. I think that Twilight got very popular one because it's a very good series and second because of the movie. I think people got more interested in it when the movie came out. The same thing happened with J.K. Rowling's  Harry Potter.

I think that when you read a book and then see the movie it kinda ruins your experience reading it. When you read a book you create all these images in your mind. You picture what the characters look like and the settings and specific places look like . When your watching the movie for the book your watching the producers images of the book and the pictures he made in his mind. It kind of tears away all the images you made for yourself. That's why people are always saying the book is way better than the movie because they prefer the way they pictured it to the way the movie makers did. I like both the book and the movies for Twilight but the movies always cut out some parts or are less descriptive than the books.
